Modernizing Ski Resort Branding, 3 Resorts at a Time

Trampoline Advertising & Design reveals new branding suites for three distinct mountain resorts in the Northeast and the Midwest.

Midwest Family Ski Resorts (MFSR), owner of Granite Peak in Wisconsin, Snowriver Mountain Resort in Michigan, and Lutsen Mountains in Minnesota, hired Trampoline Design to overhaul various elements throughout the company's assets, modernizing names and logos to reflect ongoing transformation.

Using typeface, color, signal art, messaging, and tone, the new brands define each destination and create a sense of place for the potential (or returning) guest in an era of steep competition at ski resorts. New resort and mountain names for Snowriver, formerly Big Snow (Indianhead Mountain & BlackJack Mountains), and a rebrand at Lutsen Mountains set the tone for this new partnership, updated facilities, and investment in image in an ever-changing outdoor recreation space.

Trampoline's brand updates and ongoing guidance set the stage for mountain resort advertising with a more significant impact. Marketshare means investing in design that can't be ignored, messaging that's specific to the audience, and the creation of brands that are consistent enough to span different consumer groups.

Trampoline was also hired by the Olympic Regional Development Authority (ORDA) in Lake Placid tapped Trampoline to bring new life to its original icons, differentiate, and get further attention for its local historic venues.

The ORDA rebrand is a simple, modern take on the mountain's classic logo, a brand that is new and improved but true to its roots. A rebrand for Whiteface Mountain, the center of alpine activity for the 1980 Olympic games, ushers in a new era for a celebrated venue in the Adirondacks.

"One of the most rewarding things about design is the ability to influence and interact with industries you are passionate about," says Art Director Rob Hendricks. "In the case of Whiteface, I had the rare opportunity to sculpt the identity of one of my favorite destinations. Now, when I pull into the base lot on a snowy Saturday morning, it'll be with a sense of great pride for our work and the anticipation of a day on the slopes."

The Whiteface/ORDA rebrand comes simultaneously as local tourism and economic authorities aim to modernize the area's assets in the lead-up to the FISU 2023 Winter World University Games hosted in Lake Placid.
