When Passion and Purpose Collide

The journey to B Corp makes you take a hard look at yourself in the context of the work you do and the way you conduct business. Naturally, it makes you look inward at what you are doing to make the world a better place. It’s no secret that Trampoline is a company made up of adventurers. We ski, hike, bike, walk, swim, and play—hard. Take a quick look at our staff’s social postings and you’ll catch a glimpse into their adventures and passion for the outdoors.

For Managing Partner Paula Slayton, her adventures are almost always associated with water—more specifically the ocean. From paddle boarding to body surfing, beach walks to shell seeking, she draws inspiration and peace from time spent by the sea.

It’s that passion and inward reflection that led her to Surfrider Foundation.

Surfrider’s mission is to protect and preserve the world’s oceans, beaches, waves, and shorelines. Surfrider volunteers can be found on beaches and shorelines from the West Coast to the East Coast, Alaska to Hawaii, and around the world. On the shores, they conduct beach clean-ups, dune restoration, and test water quality and on a larger scale, they advocate for clean water, plastic pollution mitigation, climate resilience, and beach access for all. They appeal to state and national legislatures and local city councils across the country for legislation that better protects the environment.

Paula and Derek at Old Orchard Beach clean up on July 5th, the dirtiest beach day of the year.

This summer, Paula will be leading teams of volunteers to clean up beaches in Maine, from Long Sands Beach in York to Roques Bluff near Machias, and lots of others in between. She’ll be working with other companies who encourage their employees to spend time volunteering and setting up local beach clean-ups.

She’ll be working with local Maine companies like Sea Bags and Maine Beer Company to increase membership in the Surfrider’s Maine chapter, furthering their ability to clean more beaches, test more water, and ensure beach access for all.

What are you passionate about? How can you make the world just a little bit better?
